Biobricks of Plant Biosyntheses

Phenylpropanoids and their derivatives are the second largest group, after terpenes, of naturally occurring plant natural products with high economic potential. In addition to the food (eg. vanillin) and perfume industry (eg. eugenol) these substances are used in industrial applications (eg. coumarin derivatives in dye lasers). Since many of the economically and medically interesting compounds from the natural resources are accessible only to an insufficient extent, new ways for the biocatalytic production of these substances will be developed.
